Jeff Stelling delivers great news – and makes Allan Saint-Maximin joke at Paul Merson’s expense

Back in October last year, Jeff Stelling announced that this would be his last season presenting Gillette Soccer Saturday.

He’s the star of the show and has been utterly brilliant during his 30 years at Sky Sports, so it came as great news for all football fans up and down the country to hear him reveal that he will now continue as host ahead of the 2022/23 season!

Stelling admitted yesterday that, as he was preparing to say his goodbyes ahead of the final few games of the season, he wasn’t ready to “blow the final whistle and leave the best job in the world”, meaning we can enjoy his rants, raves and raucous celebrations for at least another year.

Reacting to the news on Twitter, the Hartlepool born 67-year-old made a joke at Paul Merson’s expense, saying he couldn’t leave until his Sky Sports colleague finally masters how to pronounce Allan Saint-Maximin properly!

We may spend plenty of our Saturday’s at St James’ Park, but when we’re at home listening in to all the of the 3pm kick offs across the grounds, Jeff Stelling is the one and only voice we want to hear as goals fly in up and down the country.

Great news, not just for Newcastle fans but every football supporter as far as we’re concerned.
