According to reports in Portugal, Newcastle United have joined the race to sign Porto star Otavio this summer.
This comes from Portuguese outlet A Bola, who claim that we have registered our interest in the in-form playmaker ahead of this summer’s transfer window.
The report states that ourselves, Manchester United and Liverpool are all admirers of the 27-year-old and aware that he has a £50m release clause in his contract.
After 37 assists in his previous three campaigns with Porto, Otavio is enjoying his best season yet, bagging five goals and 12 assists at club level as well as impressing with the national team following a call-up to the Portuguese national side.
He bagged a goal and an assist in their crucial World Cup play-off clash with Turkey last week, meaning he’s now been involved in three goals in as many appearances for his country.
The diminutive winger often plays down the right, however he’s known for his versatility after playing in just about every midfield role during his time with Porto – also being named the Dragons captain since Sérgio Oliveira left for Roma in January.
