Fabrizio Romano claims NUFC now keen to sign Scottish star – £15-20m fee ‘not an issue’

Back in October 2019, the Scottish Sun reported that Newcastle scouts had been spotted watching Aaron Hickey during Hearts’ 1-1 draw with Rangers at Tynecastle.

A few years on, the highly-rated Scot is now shining in Serie A with Bologna – and, if Fabrizio Romano is to be believed, he’s back on our radar ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

The well known Italy reporter claims a potential fee of ‘£15-20m’ is ‘not an issue’ for Newcastle, as he’s considered a ‘top talent’ by talent spotters on Tyneside.

However, Romano warns that there are several other clubs watching the left-back – who can also play as a left-midfielder.

Here’s what he tweeted this afternoon, suggesting the 19-year-old could be another one to watch for Newcastle fans this summer:

Not only has Hickey played more minutes than any other teenager in Europe’s top five leagues this season, he’s bagged four goals and an assist in 27 appearances in Serie A over 2021/22.

One question it raises, if true, is what this could mean for any potential move for Matt Targett?

Are Newcastle eyeing moves for TWO left-backs this summer, or could Hickey be an alternative to the on loan Aston Villa man?

Time will tell, but this is certainly another exciting link, suggesting Eddie Howe and the new owners are keen to build for the future.
