Alan Pardew named the new bookies favourite for surprise job as ex-Mag eyes return to England

Former Newcastle United manager Alan Pardew is now the favourite to replace Mark Robinson at League One side AFC Wimbledon.

The 60-year-old could make his return to English football following spells as manager at Netherlands side ADO Den Haag as well as technical director at CSKA Sofia in Bulgaria.

Pardew spent four years on Tyneside where he achieved what is still our highest finish (fifth) since 2004 in the 2011-12 season; a year that saw him win the Manager of the Season award.

His latest managerial job in England was with West Brom back in 2018, where he was sacked just four months in after a run of 10 games without a win left the Baggies in a perilous position in the Premier League table.

With just seven games remaining in League One, The Wombles are in a serious relegation battle and find themselves in 21st place – one point away from Fleetwood and safety in 20th.

Now Pardew has been made the favourite for the job at odds of just 3/1, he would certainly have to hit the ground running in order for the club to secure their League One status – something he couldn’t do at West Brom last time out!
