6 Newcastle players absent from training & trio handed chance to impress Howe ahead of Spurs trip

Newcastle United have released photos of the players in training this week, offering an early indication who is fit – and who is still away – ahead of Sunday’s trip to Spurs.

Fabian Schar and Martin Dubravka are both absent from from the 50 pictures posted on the club’s official site. The former pulled out of the Switzerland squad last week with an ‘adductor’ problem, while the latter also returned to Tyneside over the weekend due to an infection.

So, it seems both are facing a race against time to be fit for Sunday, while our other internationals may also be in the same boat, with Bruno Guimaraes (Brazil), Chris Wood (New Zealand), Miguel Almiron (Paraguay) and Emil Krafth (Sweden) still absent as of yesterday.

Elsewhere, the club have confirmed that January signing Isaac Westendorf, former Liverpool defender Remi Savage and local talent Jay Turner-Cooke were all invited to train with the first team yesterday, giving the young Toon trio a chance to impress Eddie Howe.

Here are the 18 outfield players we spotted in the latest set of training photos, followed by a few photos of the U23 talents training with the senior squad ahead of Sunday’s trip to Spurs:

Dan Burn, Paul Dummett, Federico Fernandez, Jamaal Lascelles, Remi Savage, Javier Manquillo, Matt Targett, Matt Ritchie, Jonjo Shelvey, Sean Longstaff, Joe Willock, Joelinton, Jay Turner-Cooke, Jacob Murphy, Ryan Fraser, Allan Saint-Maximin, Dwight Gayle, Isaac Westendorf.
