Another free transfer on NUFC’s radar as Toon line up bargain move for Lazio star – Report

Italian paper Corriere della Sera report that Newcastle are eyeing up a move for Lazio stopper Thomas Strakosha as they seek to find competition for Martin Dubravka this summer.

The Albanian goalkeeper has spent the last 10 years at the Rome-based club, making 200 professional appearances and helping his side to win the Coppa Italia in 2013 and 2019.

However, current Lazio manager Mauricio Sarri reportedly wants someone else between the posts next season and has preferred the veteran Pepe Reina this year – so a move away for the 27-year-old looks increasingly likely.

With the 6ft 4′ goalie out of contract in a few months time, Corriere della Sera report that we are eager to snap him up on a free transfer – making this yet another potential Bosman we could be in the market for this summer.

Given Martin Dubravka recently turned 33, the younger Strakosha could offer serious competition for that number one spot and would certainly be more of an option long-term.

According to The Sun, we had a scout watching the Greek-born keeper whilst he played in the Europa League fixture against Marseille last year – so it seems there may be genuine interest from our end.

So, could this be another shrewd move amongst other big money buys as we look to improve the squad while working well within FFP regulations?
