Man Utd to hijack NUFC’s move for top target after Toon make contact over summer deal – Reports

Newcastle United’s hopes of signing Darwin Nunez this summer appear to be dwindling.

After 26 goals in 33 games this season – including another crucial Champions League goal to send Benfica into the quarter finals – it’s reported that Manchester United have now joined the race to sign the Uruguayan goal machine.

The Telegraph have confirmed our long-term interest, along with 90min reporter Graeme Bailey, however both state that Manchester United have been watching the 22-year-old closely in recent weeks.

This comes just a week after Mark Douglas (the i) revealed that the prolific forward had been identified as a ‘top target’ heading into this summer’s transfer window, yet he’s another who has now confirmed serious interest from Old Trafford chiefs in his latest piece today.

90min report that we have been in contact with Nunez’s representatives to find out what it would take to bring him to St James’ Park this summer, but it seems Man Utd are one of several sides planning to hijack our attempts to land the South American.

They also claim that the player is eager to play in the Premier League, however interest from Man Utd could prove problematic given they may be able to offer him European football next season.

The Telegraph also report that Man Utd’s interest is more advanced than Arsenal’s, with top clubs in Spain also planning summer moves for the striker – highlighting the level of competition we look set to face this summer.
