The Athletic have today released an in-depth piece on Newcastle United’s summer transfer plans, covering a host of players we could look to sign in a couple of months time.
One name that featured was Lucas Paqueta; the Brazilian star who is not only Bruno Guimaraes’ best friend and Brazilian teammate, but someone he played alongside during his time at Lyon.
North-East reporter Chris Waugh claims that we have already enquired about a potential summer move for the attacking midfielder, having asked about his situation just prior to completing the signing of Guimaraes.
According to Le10 Sport, we launched a £34m bid for the former AC Milan man back in January but saw that offer rejected. Who knows how accurate that report was, however it is no surprise to see us lining up a potential summer move for a player who could tick so many boxes.
Not only could be be tempted to join his close friend on Tyneside, but he has a brilliant relationship with Guimaraes on and off the field – highlighted by the video below – is a good age at 24 and the sort of goal-scoring No 10 we should be looking to bring in this summer.
Just look at the way both linked up in Brazil’s 4-0 win over Bolivia in the early hours of Wednesday morning, seeing Guimaraes set up Paqueta in the first half before the latter returned the favour late on:
