New figure released on Toon transfer budget as NUFC eye move for German international – Report

According to Graeme Bailey at 90min, Newcastle will have £100 million to spend this summer – despite The Telegraph claiming last week that the budget will around the £60 million mark.

That said, the piece does insist that wholesale changes are unlikely to take place, stating that a quality over quantity approach could be pursued.

The report also suggests that we may miss out on January target Sven Botman due to intense interest from Italian giants AC Milan, so could instead turn to highly-rated Freiburg defender Nico Schlotterbeck.

The 22-year-old has been tipped to be a future star and recently made his debut for the German national team in a 2-0 victory over Israel.

Schlotterbeck has made 29 appearances for Freiburg so far this season, scoring four times and helping his side maintain the second-best defensive record in the league – only conceding one more than Bayern Munich

The young centre-back recently admitted that he could leave Freiburg in the summer with just one year left on his current contract at the Bundesliga club.

However, with the German side sitting in 5th, Schlotterbeck could still be persuaded to stay should they qualify for the Champions League.

With that in mind, Lloyd Kelly could be another one to watch, with 90min, The Athletic and The Mail all naming him as a player Eddie Howe is keen on this week.
