NUFC duo set to clash in Qatar as World Cup draw sees former Mag also feature in their group

Toon teammates Bruno Guimaraes and Fabian Schar will face each other at the World Cup in Qatar later this year as Brazil and Switzerland were drawn together in Group G.

Guimaraes has been in great form for his national team, with the 24-year-old scoring once and bagging a hat-trick of assists in his last three appearances for the South American side.

Schar will also be hoping for a good tournament following their strong run at Euro 2020, where they knocked out the current World Cup holders France and took Spain to penalties in the quarter-finals.

The pair will also face former Magpie Aleksandar Mitrovic, as Serbian were drawn in the same group after they qualified ahead of a star-studded Portugal team.

The 27-year-old left us for Fulham back in 2018 and has gone on to break the Championship goal scoring record this season – currently on 35 goals in 35 games – while also having the record number of goals for his country with 44.

Newcastle fans will hope that by the time the tournament rolls around in November, we may have a few more players involved in the competition after a potentially hectic summer.

For now though, Group G will be something to keep an eye on for fans on Tyneside.
