The Athletic name 9 Premier League players on NUFC’s radar – Everton star & English trio feature

In their latest long-read, The Athletic have revealed a host of Premier League players shortlisted by Newcastle United ahead of this summer’s transfer window.

The nine named are: Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Watford winger Ismaila Sarr, Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, Man Utd’s Jesse Lingard, Brighton midfielder Yves Bissouma, Leeds’ Kalvin Phillips, Kepa Arrizabalaga of Chelsea, Man Utd stopper Dean Henderson and Arsenal’s Bernd Leno.

With three goalkeepers named, it looks likely that Newcastle could either replace current number one Martin Dubravka or add some much needed competition for that starting spot.

As for midfielders, Kalvin Phillips has been injured for most of the season, but his importance to Leeds and England in Euro 2020 was immense. Either he or Brighton’s Bissouma would add great ball-winning quality to our ever-improving engine room.

Further up the pitch, interest remains for January target Lingard whose contract expires in the summer, while Eze and Sarr are two younger options who would could be exciting replacements for Miguel Almiron; a player who seems likely to depart this summer.

The Athletic claim the signing of a striker is an ‘utmost priority’, with them reporting that most of our transfer budget will be spent on a top quality forward.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was among those mentioned, with the 25-year-old desperate to get back amongst the goals after an injury-plagued season and a move could be likely if Everton don’t stay up.
