Newcastle set to launch £20m bid for Brighton star this summer – Alan Nixon

According to The Sun’s Alan Nixon, Newcastle are planning to make a £20m bid for Brighton stopper Robert Sanchez this summer.

In his latest ‘exclusive’, Nixon reports that Eddie Howe is keen to bring in another goalkeeper and is believed to have identified the highly-rated Spaniard as his number one target, with Watford’s Ismaila Sarr also named as a leading target.

The likes of Dean Henderson, Bernd Leno, Kepa Arrizabalaga and Sam Johnstone have been linked in recent weeks, however it’s claimed that Sanchez is Howe’s ‘favoured choice’ at present.

Nixon warns that Brighton will demand big money for the 24-year-old – who made his first appearance for the Spanish national side last year – however the two clubs have done business on more than one occasion since our new owners came in, with Dan Burn arriving in January and negotiations currently taking place over a compensation package for Director of Football Dan Ashworth

Sanchez’s ‘strong personality’ is believed to have impressed Toon scouts along with his ability between the sticks, while it’s also worth noting that he’s a ball-playing goalkeeper who is more than comfortable with the ball at his feet – something Martin Dubravka is not.

So, another goalkeeper linked with a summer move to St James’ Park, suggesting we are keen to bring in competition for our current number one at the very least.
