Newcastle offered chance to sign former Liverpool striker for £25m this summer – BILD

Newcastle are believed to be one of three Premier League clubs tracking Taiwo Awoniyi – the former Liverpool striker who’s been scoring goals for fun in the Bundesliga.

According to German outlet BILD, ourselves, West Ham and Southampton have been impressed by the Nigerian and told he’ll be allowed to leave if Union Berlin’s £25m asking price is met this summer.

Awoniyi didn’t actually make a senior appearance for Jurgen Klopp’s side, instead being sold for £6.5m last July after loan spells with Frankfurt, NEC, Mouscron, Gent, FSV Mainz 05 and Union Berlin.

BILD claim that it is “very likely that he will be sold in the summer”, suggesting his 17 goals and four assists in 36 appearances have given the Bundesliga minnows a chance to raise funds that could help transform the squad.

The 24-year-old received his first call-up to the Nigerian national side last October and scored in their 3-1 win over Sudan at the African Cup of Nations back in January.

Here’s a few clips of the powerful striker in action this season:
