NUFC talent breaks silence on his future under new owners & makes Champions League claim

Sean Longstaff’s contract is set to run out this summer, yet his latest comments suggest he is desperate to remain at his boyhood club.

With the signing of Brazilian star Bruno Guimaraes and the recently reliable trio of Jonjo Shelvey, Joelinton and Joe Willock, the 24-year-old has struggled to nail down a starting place in the team.

So far this season, the academy graduate has started just 11 times in the Premier league. He’s down the pecking order under Eddie Howe, yet the NUFC boss did admit in a recent interview that he still has a future on Tyneside following contract talks.

Everton had previously been named as a potential destination should he leave on a free this summer, however, as a local lad, Longstaff is living the dream of hundreds of thousands of Newcastle fans and says he’s “focused on being the best I can be – and hopefully that’s here.”

Here’s what he’s had to say when speaking about his future, also claiming that he’ll back at St James’ Park watching Champions League nights and title-deciders when he’s retired!

“I’m from 15 mins down the road – the family are season-ticket holders.

“Why wouldn’t I want to be a part of a powerhouse in world football in the future?

“I’m focused on being the best player I can be – and hopefully that’s here.

“To play for Newcastle United as a fan… we always say if we’re retired, we’ll come back to St James’ and it’ll be Champions League nights and games to win titles.

“We’re the first building block in that.”
