Alan Shearer makes bold relegation prediction ahead of Newcastle v Wolves – Over to you, NUFC!

Alan Shearer feels Newcastle need “one more win” to secure their Premier League status this season, handing the players a huge incentive ahead of tonight’s clash with Wolves at St James’ Park.

Speaking to NUFC TV, our former number nine accepts a win won’t mathematically “guarantee safety”, but believes another three points would be “enough” given what we’re up against.

Should we beat Wolves in tonight’s 8pm kick off, we’d go 10 points clear of the bottom three and move 13 ahead of second bottom Watford.

Burnley and Everton would then have two games in hand on ourselves, but the Toffees remaining fixtures look very tough and Leeds United are still in the mix – a side we’d go four points ahead of (having played the same number of games) with a victory later on.

Here’s what Shearer had to say when asked about our survival bid:

“It’s a matter of this season staying in the Premier League, which I’m pretty certain we will do.

I think, maybe just need one more win.

That should be enough because where other teams are.

I know what’s happened in the last three games hasn’t been great, but it’s a matter of getting back on track.

“As I said, I think they need three points.

I mean, it won’t guarantee safety, but I believe that will that will be enough and then kicking on next season.

So, over to you Newcastle United, as our all-time top scorer and one of the country’s leading pundits reckons our Premier League status will be all but secured if we come away with three points tonight!

Here’s what Howe had to say about the relegation battle during yesterday’s press conference:
