Howe hints at new injury blow as another two players face battle to be fit for NUFC’s run-in

Ryan Fraser and Joe Willock have joined Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson in a battle to be fit for Newcastle United’s remaining games this season.

Eddie Howe has confirmed that the hamstring injury picked up by Fraser in Friday night’s win over Wolves looks like a “big enough injury” to keep the Scot our for a “period of time”, suggesting he’s likely to miss upcoming home games against Leicester City and Crystal Palace.

As for Joe Willock, the NUFC boss admits that he doesn’t know when the midfielder will be ready to play again.

He hopes that an injection in his troublesome knee will “fix the problem”, but refuses to say when he’ll be back – despite believing it won’t be a long-term injury for the former Arsenal man.

Here’s what Howe’s had to say about both, followed by Kieran Trippier’s latest comments on his recovery from a broken foot.

Eddie Howe on Ryan Fraser:

“I think it’s a hamstring, and enough to keep him out for a period of time.

“I don’t know how long that would be.

“But, it’s unusual for him to come off – which meant there’s a big enough injury.”

Eddie Howe on Joe Willock:

“He’s gone away to have an injection in his knee.

“We hope that will fix the problem for him.

“We don’t think he’ll be out long term, we don’t think it’ll be long before he’s back in contention to play but until he’s back, you can never say never.

“We hope that’s fixed the pain he’s had.”
