Newcastle United’s hopes of staying in the Premier League have just received yet another boost, as relegation rivals Burnley suffered a 2-0 defeat at Norwich in today’s 2pm kick off.
The result means we remain 10 points clear of the bottom three, with the result at Carrow Road also great news for Everton and Leeds – two sides who also pulled clear via big wins on Saturday afternoon.
Elsewhere today, Brentford went back above us after beating West Ham 2-0, while Leicester climbed up to 9th via a 2-1 win over Crystal Palace – a game between two sides we’re set to face at St James’ Park over the next 10 days.
So, we may be back down to 15th, but Burnley’s defeat feels like a damning one after all three clubs above them won this weekend – leaving them four points from safety and 10 behind us with just eight games left to play.
Here’s the updated Premier League table and all of the results around the bottom this weekend:
- Newcastle 1-0 Wolves
- Everton 1-0 Man Utd
- Watford 0-3 Leeds
- Norwich 1 – Burnley
- Brentford – West Ham
Howe won’t admit it and we’re not mathematically safe yet, but I just can’t see how we go down from here!
If we get 3/4 pts from next couple of games we could look up rather down to 10th/12th. But I think we are safe now.
