Miguel Almiron’s agent has arrived on Tyneside to discuss the Paraguayan’s future at the club, according to The Chronicle.
Lee Ryder reports that Miggy’s representative – Daniel Campos – was present in the executive area for Friday night’s 1-0 win over Wolves; a game that saw his client get more minutes than expected after he replaced Ryan Fraser on the 10-minute mark.
Fraser’s hamstring injury could mean the 28-year-old gets an unexpected run in the side over the coming weeks, yet the fact he’s started just five of Howe’s first 21 games in charge suggests he may not be in his long-term plans.
The Chronicle report that clubs in Spain and Italy have shown interest in the former MLS star, also confirming that he has a £59m release clause in his current deal – not that anyone will be activating that anytime soon!
Two years ago, Campos claimed that Almiron would’ve left Newcastle by now had the COVID-19 pandemic not struck – drumming up alleged interest from Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan and some “big English clubs” in a series of outspoken interviews.
This led Steve Bruce to call his agent a “two-bob amateur” back in November 2020, slating his unprofessionalism in a bid to drum up interest on the sly.
