According to reports in Portugal, Newcastle United had a scout watching Sporting Lisbon star Gonçalo Inácio last weekend.
This comes from A Bola, who claim a club representative was in attendance to check out the centre-back during a 3-1 win over Tondela on Saturday – a game which saw the 20-year-old open the scoring with a superb strike from range.
There’s some previous when it comes to Newcastle and Inácio, as Portuguese journalist Pedro Sepulveda released a January ‘exclusive’ claiming we’d had a €30m (£25m) bid rejected for the highly-rated defender.
A Bola’s latest piece makes reference to this failed January bid – suggesting we hold long-term interest in the player – and also claims a €45m release clause exists in his current contract.
Inácio has represented Portugal from every level between U17 to U21 and should make his first appearance for the senior team soon after being called up to Fernando Santos’ initial squad in last month.
Here’s a clip of him scoring in front of a Newcastle United scout on Saturday:
ALEX murphy will be a good addition to Newcastle Under 21-23. He’s a left footed Centre Back, just like Botman. Need physical strengthening however to be a real pole in the future.
