“He will never go there” – Journalist claims NUFC won’t be signing January target this summer

Italian journalist Raffaele Auriema claims Newcastle United have no chance of attracting Napoli striker Victor Osimhen to St James’ Park this summer.

The Nigerian has regularly been linked with a big money move to Tyneside since the takeover went through last October, with one report even suggesting we had a huge offer rejected for the 23-year-old in January.

Speaking at an event in Naples, Auriema says we did make contact with the player earlier this year, but feels sure Newcastle is “not a destination he likes” – feeling he’d only be tempted if we was signed alongside superstars like Neymar!

Here’s what he had to say at the event, as quoted by Area Napoli:

“Osimhen away at the end of the season?

In January he was asked forby Newcastle, but he will never go there because it is not a destination that he likes.

It’s a different proposition if the English club managed to take on people like Neymar and other champions.”

It’s said the Serie A side will demand around £80m for the former Lille forward this summer, so a move to Newcastle seems unlikely for that reason alone.

Osimhen has bagged an impressive 16 goals and five assists in 26 appearances this season, also being prolific for his country with 10 goals in 18 caps for Nigeria.

The Chronicle reckon he’s one of several strikers Steve Nickson has watched, but, if this journalist is to be believed, it doesn’t sound like he’s sold on a move to St James’ Park!
