Howe makes surprise Emil Krafth admission after the Swede’s “outstanding” display vs Leicester

Eddie Howe has revealed that Emil Krafth was too ill to train just 24 hours before yesterday’s 2-1 win over Leicester – making his “outstanding” performance all the more impressive!

The Swede put in another rock solid display at right-back, completing more ball recoveries (10) and tackles (7) than any other player on the pitch.

Howe also admitted that he was suffering towards the end of the game, not only feeling ill but also cramping up.

Considering he’d barely trained all week and was under the weather on the day, his performance really was brilliant, with him staying switched on throughout and barely giving Harvey Barnes a kick.

Here’s what the Toon boss told BBC Newcastle about the much improved right-back, revealing that he almost missed out altogether and was struggling to continue:

After a solid display in our 1-0 win over Wolves, he was brilliant once again on Sunday and played a big part in our win, seeing us concede just two shots on target despite Leicester having almost 70% possession.

I didn’t expect to say this, but he thoroughly deserves to be in our XI and has come on leaps and bounds since Howe’s arrival.

  1. Olly,
Do you think anyone at Newcastle might want to show St Max a replay of how Willock went down the wing without trying to beat players at least ten times and get the ball into the box to create the winner for Bruno?
And do you think it would do any good?
Krafth has improved no end with Howe! Shame about St Max who seems to be suffering not being the headline grabber, take £50 million for him and buy Gross from Brighton who will deliver balls for Wood, Wilson and anyone else who takes a gamble.

  2. absoluely agree with that comment Joe, alan st’ max is not incisive enough and he won’t pass to wood who runs some great channels for alan but he’s more intent on showing off his skills than getting his striker a good scoring chance. I can’t recall alan setting wood up but i can recall some great runs by wood only for them to be wasted effort. I would go so far as saying s’t max does not rate wood and that is a very serious allegation when so many fans think the sun shines out of his – well!
    you know where.
