Football Insider have revealed that Newcastle are currently holding discussions over Rangers ‘sensation’ Alex Lowry after he rejected a new contract from The Gers.
The Scottish Premiership champions offered the 18-year-old a new £5,000 a week contract lasting until 2024, but had it turned down as the youngster plans to consider his options.
Prior to our 1-0 win over Wolves, it’s reported that our head of recruitment Steve Nickson met with the midfielder’s agent to discuss a move to Tyneside in the summer.
The Scotsman made his league debut back in January in a 1-0 victory over Livingston and has featured three times in the Scottish Cup, scoring once in his very first game and assisting once in a four-minute cameo against Dundee FC.
Lowry has also appeared five times for Scotland’s Under-19s where he scored four times in European Championship Qualifiers.
Newcastle have made their interest clear but will face stiff competition from top-flight rivals while Rangers manager Giovanni Van Bronckhorst remains in talks with the talented teenager to persuade him to stay.
