Newcastle miss out on £25m man as another summer target agrees move elsewhere – Report

As reported by 90min, Newcastle have missed out on one of their summer targets as Freiburg centre-back Nico Schlotterbeck looks set to join Borussia Dortmund.

The German defender is believed to have been identified as a potential alternative to Sven Botman – who looks Milan bound – however it seems he too will be signing elsewhere.

Interestingly, the same piece states that Eddie Howe will be handed around £100m to spend this summer, naming Sevilla’s Diego Carlos and Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly as back-up options now we appear to have missed out on Botman and Schlotterbeck.

So far this season, the 22-year-old has played a crucial role in maintaining the Bundesliga’s third best defence as his side hope to push on for Champions League qualification.

He also recently made his debut for Germany, being a left-footed ball-player who could have been a brilliant addition to our defence for years to come.

However, it looks like he’ll join Borussia Dortmund, with reports in his homeland suggesting he’ll sign for a bargain fee of £25m this summer.

  1. He’s already come out and said he won’t make a decision until the end of the season in fact he’s just come out and said it again yesterday

Schlotterbeck told Sky Deutschland: “I read that [the rumours of him approving a move to Dortmund], but I can say that nothing will happen until the end of the season.
“I said I’ll make my decision after the season, nothing has changed about that.”

Maybe look at what’s happening before posting an article. 😳
