Former Mag keen to re-join Newcastle United but the club aren’t convinced – Report

According to The Chronicle, Ayoze Perez tried to secure a January return to St James’ Park – but no offer was forthcoming as Eddie Howe preferred to look elsewhere.

When the Spaniard left to join Leicester City for £30 million, the club was very much on a downward trajectory – Rondon’s loan spell came to an end and Rafa Benitez did not sign a new contract resulting in Steve Bruce becoming manager.

However, with ambitious new owners, Eddie Howe and an influx of January signings, Newcastle are seemingly on the way up and unrecognisable to the club he left three years ago.

Ironically enough, we are aiming higher than the likes of Perez, with The Chronicle revealing that we opted against bringing the former Mag back to Tyneside during the winter window.

The 28-year-old has struggled for game time at the East Midlands side and when given his chance has largely failed to impress.

He started in last weekend’s win over the Foxes, yet that was the first time he’s been named in Brendan Rodgers’ Premier League XI since the turn of the year.

Perez was a good servant of ours – he arrived for peanuts and went on to become our top scoring player over the Mike Ashley era – but we were right to snub him in January and will be looking at superior options this summer.
