Newcastle hoping to sign Benoît Badiashile and Moussa Diaby this summer – Report

According to reports in France, Newcastle United are showing serious interest in Monaco centre-back Benoît Badiashile and Bayern Leverkusen star Moussa Diaby.

This comes from Foot Mercato, who report that the French duo are key targets for the club heading into the summer transfer window.

Badiashile was heavily linked in January, with The Athletic one of several outlets to name him as our back-up to Sven Botman – the big Dutchman who Lille refused to sell midway through the season.

However, just as we were tipped to make a move for the 6ft 4′ Frenchman, he suffered a hamstring injury that kept him out of action until March.

Fast forward a few months, Foot Mercato believe he is back on our radar and the left-footed centre-back we are keen to sign now Botman looks likely to join AC Milan.

It’s believed Monaco are holding out for a fee in the region of €40 (£33.5m) for the highly-rated 21-year-old, while Diaby could cost considerably more.

The Leverkusen winger has bagged 16 goals and 11 assists in all competitions this season, with six of those goal contributions coming in his eight Europa League appearances.

The Mail released a piece in March claiming we are preparing a £50m bid for the French international this summer, suggesting there is real interest from Newcastle in the 22-year-old attacker.
