The Athletic: NUFC could raid relegation rivals of top scorer – Player keen on Premier League stay

According to The Athletic, Newcastle United could make a summer move for Emmanuel Dennis should Watford suffer relegation.

The report states that the Nigerian is a player our recruitment team are well aware of, being someone we ‘looked at signing’ just two years ago.

They stress that he is unlikely to be considered a priority signing by Eddie Howe, yet suggest the 24-year-old could be one to watch given our previous interest and need for new attacking options.

Dennis is Watford’s top scorer this season, bagging an impressive 10 goals and five assists in 30 Premier League appearances.

West Ham are another club who are believed to have shown interest, with the Nigerian keen to secure a Premier League move this summer should Roy Hodgson’s side fail to beat the drop.

The versatile forward isn’t the only Watford player who’s been linked with a potential move to St James’ Park, as The Athletic recently named Ismaila Sarr as another Hornets star we have been keeping tabs on.

While Dennis is versatile, explosive and someone who has performed well in a poor side this season, he’s often looked lazy and not the sort of player I can see fitting into an Eddie Howe team.

So, he may well be a player our recruitment team are well aware of and could be on offer should Watford go down, but I would be surprised if he ended up at Newcastle.
