According to i news, a series of recruitment meetings look set to take place at Newcastle United over the next week following a flying visit from Yasir Al-Rumayyan.
Eddie Howe revealed on Wednesday night that he is in regular contact with the chairman, and it seems our preparations for the summer will step up soon now we’re up to 40 points and well clear of danger.
Mark Douglas – the i’s Northern Football Correspondent – states that we are ‘close’ to wrapping up a permanent move for Matt Targett, believing the framework of a deal has already been agreed with Aston Villa.
Elsewhere, he writes that we are set to prioritise moves for another striker and a ‘top class centre-back’ in a window which will focus on ‘quality over quantity’. A couple of loan signings could arrive too, helping us stay one step ahead of financial fair play rules.
Being ‘smart sellers’ is also on the agenda, with our owners aware that a £90m spend in January was followed by few outgoings – not to mention the fact we’ll have to free up space in Eddie Howe’s squad to make room for new arrivals.
