Gabby Agbonlahor completes laughable U-turn as he names player NUFC could sign this summer

Former Aston Villa forward Gabby Agbonlahor recently claimed that players would favour a move to Brentford on lower wages rather than go to Newcastle.

A few months on from those outlandish claims, you’ll never guess who he’s tipped NUFC to sign this summer? Brentford striker Ivan Toney…

During his time on talkSPORT, the 35-year-old has had his fair share of shocking comments regarding the state of affairs at Newcastle – most notably his claim that Steve Bruce was the right manager for us – and his recent remarks have certainly followed suit.

Back in November 2021, Agbonlahor said that he believed Newcastle would struggle to attract players to the North East stating that they would rather earn less and live in the capital.

However, after defending these comments to fellow presenter Ally McCoist, the former England international went on to contradict himself as he claimed that Ivan Toney – a Brentford player – should consider a move to Newcastle.

Here’s what Agbonlahor said on the matter:

“If they’re going to try and shop in the same window as Man City and Chelsea, I don’t think they will get those players.

But, they might start to gradually get there, maybe the likes of Ivan Toney, try and get him in the door.

“They are coming, Newcastle now.

“With the backing they’ve got financially, other teams that are looking to get into European places…

“Give it a couple of seasons, Newcastle are going to be pushing top six.”

Here’s a reminder of what the same bloke had to say a few months after the takeover…
