Newcastle set to launch surprise summer bid for Denmark international – Report

According to The Mirror, Eddie Howe is keen to bring Spurs midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to St James’ Park this summer.

The Danish international is believed to be ‘high on his list of targets’, with the report stating that we’re prepared to launch a £30m bid for the former Southampton star who has also received interest from Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

In the same piece, The Mirror’s Tony Banks claims that Hojbjerg could be one of several players Antonio Conte looks to move on this summer.

The 26-year-old midfield general has made 31 appearances this season and has been in the Italian’s first-team plans since he took the job, however it seems the no-nonsense Dane could be sold in part of a major overhaul at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

We may look strong in midfield now Bruno has signed, Shelvey has found consistency and Joelinton upped his game considerably in a deeper role, but the addition of a tough tackling midfielder with experience and leadership qualities would be a welcome one.

It may not be the flashy move some fans are hoping for this summer, but Hojbjerg could be a smart signing if the likes of Kalvin Phillips and Yves Bissouma prove unattainable.
