Newcastle linked with £4m move for versatile defender who could leave Arsenal this summer

According to Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb, Newcastle are one of the club’s considering a cut-price move for Arsenal’s Cedric Soares this summer.

The deal could potentially be as little as £4 million, with Porto putting in an early offer to entice the Portuguese international back to his home country.

The versatile full-back has only started13 times in the Premier League this season, as the likes of Kieran Tierney and Takehiro Tomiyasu have been Arteta’s preferred options down either flank.

Despite expectations of big-money signings following the takeover in October, Newcastle have spent somewhat shrewdly with players such as Dan Burn and Matt Targett arriving for a fairly cheap price – and the signing of Cedric could very well be another one.

The 30-year-old former Southampton man can operate at right-back and left-back if needed and would offer a vast amount of experience should we decide to depart with the likes of Paul Dummett, Matt Ritchie or Javier Manquillo.

While it may not be the flashy big-name signing we were hoping for, some of the low key additions we’ve made since new owners arrived have been surprisingly impressive and any move for Cedric could follow suit.
