Source close to Toon target says player wants to join Newcastle United on a free transfer

A source close to Man United midfielder Jesse Lingard has told The Sun he would prefer a move to Newcastle over West Ham as he is set to become a free agent in the summer.

The Englishman “likes the look of Eddie Howe” and could be a very valuable asset next season as the club looks to push on into the top half of the table and potentially European spots.

Incoming Man United manager Erik Ten Hag is yet to make a final decision on Lingard’s position at the club, but the 29-year-old is waiting to receive a call from the Dutch coach regarding his future before choosing the next step of his career.

However, should the England international leave at the end of his current deal – which looks likely likely – a source has claimed that he would also favour a move to Tyneside to being closer to his family in the North-West.

With the 2022 World Cup just around the corner, the goal scoring midfielder will be desperate for playing time and after our recent resurgence into the top half, Newcastle might just be the perfect place for him to show off his talent.

Here’s what this unnamed source told The Sun about Lingard’s future:

“Jesse likes the look of Eddie Howe and a move to Newcastle would give him the chance to stay closer to his family in the North West, which is important to him.”
