Eddie Howe handed double boost ahead of Sunday’s trip to Man City as exciting hint arrives

We’ll need all the help we can get if we’re to come away with a surprise result at Man City on Sunday, but it seems Eddie Howe’s preparations for the game have gone much better than Pep Guardiola’s.

The first bit of good news is that Callum Wilson has revealed he’s back in training and “fully charged”, hinting that he’s ready to return to action for the first time in 2022.

What Howe decides to do this weekend is up for debate, but the NUFC boss recently admitted that he’d be willing to throw Wilson and Trippier back into the fold BEFORE the end of the season if they were ready – and it seems both might be.

Not only that, Man City will come into Sunday’s game following a physically and mentally draining Champions League clash with Real Madrid last night.

If playing 120 minutes a few days before our game wasn’t bad enough, they bottled a two-goal lead to exit at the semi final stages, leaving the players and Pep Guardiola visibly distraught as they somehow threw away a place in the final.

Who knows, a wounded City could be an even more dangerous animal, however there could be some tired legs on show – and they’ll also be under huge pressure to hold onto their lead at the top of the Premier League now the Champions League is gone for another season.

Back to Wilson, here’s what our top scorer said on the BBC’s Footballer’s Football Podcast this week:

“I’m back now training so its been a good week.

“I am fully charged now.

“It’s been a long time coming but we’re there. We’re there!”

As for Trippier, Howe said after the 1-0 defeat to Liverpool that he could return if he has another good week in training, so we’ll have to hope we get good news on him during tomorrow’s press conference.
