Newcastle eyeing ambitious move for RB Leipzig star – L’Equipe

Newcastle United are one of several clubs eyeing a summer move for RB Leipzig star Christopher Nkunku, according to L’Equipe.

Ahead of a huge few months off the field at St James’ Park, we were always going to be linked with some of Europe’s most exciting talents – and Nkunku is one of them.

The free-scoring midfielder has bagged an incredible 31 goals and 20 assists in all competitions this season and would be a dream signing in the eyes of many Toon fans, but to say this is a long shot would be putting it mildly.

L’Equipe report that he’s ready to leave RB Leipzig after attracting interest from a host of top clubs, with Bayern Munich, Barcelona, PSG, Manchester City, Manchester United and AC Milan all on his trail, along with the newly owned Newcastle United!

So, we’d not only face heavyweight competition for his signature, but would do extremely well to convince the 24-year-old to ditch Champions League football in order to join this new project on Tyneside.

As for the fee, he’s expected to cost north of £80m. If you believe certain reports in the North-East, that’d be more than our entire summer budget!

I’d LOVE to see us pull off a marquee signing like this – it would be a huge statement of intent – however deals of this stature may have to wait a while yet.
