New footage emerges from St James’ Park as Toon owners deliver on yet another promise – Video

It looks like our new owners have followed through on their promise to have Alan Shearer’s statue relocated, as new footage shows work is underway to transfer it onto club land.

In the last couple of months, the council have passed an application to have the statue moved next to the Sir Bobby Robson – seeing a former player and manager reunited near the Gallowgate once more.

The tribute to the Premier League’s record goal scorer was originally erected back in 2016, but former owner Mike Ashley refused to have it placed on club grounds due to a breakdown of communications between the pair.

See the video from the Chronicle below, showing work is underway as we speak:

This coincides with the return of Shearer’s Bar after a new sign was recently put up to rename what was formerly known as Nine Bar under Ashley’s ownership.

While it may seem a simple and obvious gesture, it signifies the good intentions from our new owners and emphasises the effort they are willing to make to connect the club back to the fans and the city.
