Sources on Tyneside confirm summer transfer plan as Howe eyes 6 signings – The Telegraph

The Telegraph’s Luke Edwards says ‘multiple sources’ have now confirmed that Newcastle plan to bring in up to SIX new signings this summer in a bid to upgrade several areas of Eddie Howe’s first-team.

He also reports in his latest piece that the arrival of at least one striker will be a top priority, while a goalkeeper, right sided central defender, central midfielder and attacking midfielder / winger will also be targeted.

Edwards previously stated that a budget of around £60m will be made available, although that figure – and the number of signings made – could be boosted by the amount of money we manage to raise through player sales.

While that figure may not excite fans expecting a summer spending spree, the North-East reporter claims that we’ll also be ‘looking closely’ at loan deals – believing it’s likely that ‘at least one’ of those deals goes through in the final stages of the window.

With speculation already circulating over a number of players, we’re certainly set up for a unique, important and potentially exciting few months – even if it looks set to be ‘evolution not revolution’ for now.

  1. Joseph:
Elliott Anderson could save us few quid

The lad has played well in L2 – if it had been the Championship I might agree. Another loan to the Championship next season – prove himself there and he might have a future in our first team. But even then there’s a big gulf between the championship & PL.

Look at Armstrong, scored for fun at Bburn, can’t get into Saints first team.

Are you joking? Sell whoever, for WHATEVER and purchase as and what’s needed.
It’s that simple. A clear out of elder deadwood required, that is clear as day.
No doubt the incomings will vastly improve the team, but to say based on outgoings? rubbish

  3. I agree to a point Sharpy, with your Armstrong comparison, but Armstrong never looked comfortable here either in his few first team outings
Anderson, in his two run outs against Arsenal took to it like a duck to water. I’ve seen a fair bit of him (pre Bristol) and think that he’s at another level.
It still might be too early though, especially if we bring in top, top players, but I’d hate to see him ignored.
Worst case scenario, one season max in a good challenging Championship team, then back here..

The Telegraph / Luke Edwards was the one implying this – we just share what’s being reported.

We will have a sizeable budget I am sure, but it’s fair to say that will be boosted by player sales. That’s how it works – we haven’t got this endless pit of cash to spend that some talk about, clearly, so sales will be important.

  5. I think if the right player/s become available we will spend the cash.
Can’t see us spending loads on the likes of Lingard at 29 with the wages he requires, it will be a slow methodical build with players in the 24/25 age bracket where the money will be spent.
With sales and offloading of salaries I expect about £80-100 million.

  6. i would take that report that with a pinch of salt….any club in the premiership no matter how rich has to sell players just on a principle of wages alone ! there’s going to be a big clearout and that’s definite otherwise you don’t raise the bar and you stay at that level

there will be some shocks on whos leaving!

personally i can see big changes this summer though

  7. Soh ! What’s the point of not spending money, are The Saudi’s who boast of owning a massive amount, fund , used in general to rebuild the country which is truly enormous .
And any spending by NUFC, would be considered chicken feed in comparison.
Its obvious we are going nowhere fast and the mediocrities signed so far are certainly
not of a class we the fans particularly like or care for, even considering the future summer window, there’s very little in the way of a winning side being looked at.
Even the top players and club owners who are ignoring the club as hardly worthwhile doing business with, so get out your wallets and spend some dosh or we will end up with another trip to the champions-ship.
And our new manager, if they haven’t played for him in the past , forget it.
We should be stocking the under 23’s with talented youngsters for future use and buying some decent players to give us a reputation, instead of being ignored as irrelevant .

  8. Leave Anderson with us (The Gas) for another season and Barton will give you a Prem ready player back.
