According to new reports, Newcastle United have reignited their interest in Tottenham’s forgotten man Cameron Carter-Vickers.
This comes from American outlet SBI Soccer, who report that ‘a source close’ to the USA international has revealed that we are making enquiries about a potential summer move to St James’ Park.
The club were linked with a loan move for the 24-year-old last summer, however he ended up joining Celtic on a temporary deal until the end of the 2021/22 season.
SBI report that Celtic have an option to sign the centre-back for around £6m – a deal which could be worth up to £10m in add-ons – but claim that Newcastle are ‘ready to pounce’ if the SPL giants are slow to activate this purchase option.
Interestingly, Carter-Vickers has ties to Newcastle United’s coaching staff, having played under Graeme Jones at Luton and also impressing during a loan stint at Bournemouth – who were managed by Newcastle assistant Jason Tindall at the time.
I’d expect Celtic to wrap up this deal – he’s been a revelation in Scotland this season – but he could be one to watch if they aren’t able to cough up the fee needed to sign him permanently.
Aye, that’s what we are sorely missing in our team.
