According to The Telegraph, Sean Longstaff’s future at Newcastle United is hanging in the balance as contract talks continue to drag on.
This comes just a few days after Eddie Howe said discussions over a new deal were heading in the right direction, with the NUFC boss appearing reluctant to lose the midfielder on a free transfer this summer.
However, Luke Edwards claims that Longstaff has so far ‘refused’ to sign the contract offer put his way, as he wants to be guaranteed more game time if he’s to stay beyond this season.
The 24-year-old started in Sunday’s 5-0 battering at Man City, however this was just his fourth Premier League start since the turn of the year – and only came due to season-ending injuries to Jonjo Shelvey and Joe Willock.
Elsewhere, Edwards also reveals that the club are listening to offers for SEVEN first-team players, with Matt Ritchie, Ciaran Clark, Karl Darlow, Federico Fernandez, Isaac Hayden, Jeff Hendrick and Dwight Gayle all made available for transfer.
There’s no real surprises there, with all of the above either way down the pecking order, out of contract soon or past their best and therefore in need of a new challenge if we can find buyers this summer.
Would like to see Sean stay but we have to evolve he is not good enough for the first 11 and we only going to get better players he is young and may improve with experience but this league does not give anyone time to learn your good enough or your not simple as that

Seems to me that whenever it comes to contracts the Longstaffs are nowt but trouble.
Time to let them go.

No surprises in all eight of them…

Well, I think Longstaff has to be when Howe seemed confident he’d be signing a new deal last week!

The Longstaffs, in my opinion, are nothing but headaches when it comes to contracts.
