Newcastle enter race to sign Joe Willock’s ‘best friend’ on bargain deal – Report

Newcastle are one of several Premier League clubs looking to sign Eddie Nketiah this summer, according to The Mirror.

The Arsenal striker is out of contract this summer and could leave on a free transfer if Mikel Arteta can’t convince him to sign a new deal at the Emirates.

The report states that the North London club are pushing to keep him, with him scoring four goals in his last five appearances after enjoying a rare run in the side, however he’s said to be attracting interest from several top flight sides.

The Mirror claim that Newcastle, Crystal Palace, West Ham, Brighton and one unnamed German club are all watching his situation closely and ready to pounce if he does decide against signing a new deal.

One man who’d be desperate to see him end up at St James’ Park is Joe Willock, who admitted last year that he’d love to have his ‘best friend’ – who he played alongside for several years at Arsenal – join him on Tyneside.

Here’s what Willock had to say about his former Gunners teammate when speaking on BBC Radio Newcastle last August, vowing to put in a good word in hope of being reunited with the striker:

“I don’t know [If Arsenal will let him leave]

I don’t know their situation.

“Eddie is one of my best friends, so I’ll definitely put in a good word!”
