3 strikers on Newcastle’s radar if imminent Dominic Calvert-Lewin bid fails – The Telegraph

Earlier today, The Telegraph released a big ‘exclusive’ claiming Newcastle United are preparing to launch a summer bid for Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Luke Edwards claims that the 25-year-old has been identified as one of Eddie Howe’s top targets, however the same outlet have also named three other forwards also under consideration.

Calvert-Lewin appears to be the preferred option, but should a move for the England international fail, The Telegraph understand that Brentford’s Ivan Toney, Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah and Benfica star Darwin Nunez are also on the club’s transfer shortlist.

Edwards believe that our recruitment plans could ‘progress rapidly’ now we are officially safe from relegation, but it remains to be seen if Everton will entertain bids for the England international.

Toney would be an intriguing alternative, being a former Newcastle United U23 who has bagged 14 goals and six assists in all competitions for the newly promoted Bees.

The Telegraph reported last month that he was a leading target now a move for Darwin Nunez may be out of our reach, however Jacque Talbot did tell us yesterday in an exclusive chat with NUFC Blog that the Uruguayan is eager to seal a Premier League move and will be offered our way.

As for Nketiah, he was heavily linked last summer and will be available on a free transfer if he fails to sign a new deal at Arsenal over the coming month.

If all four were on offer, who would you like to see us sign? For me, Nunez is the dream signing who could spearhead this exciting new era, however I would prefer Toney to Calvert-Lewin for due to his superior all round play, better injury record and the fact he’d arrive with a point to prove.

  1. Of the four mentioned, Calvert-Lewin is the worst option by far! Darwin Nunez should be at the top of our striker shortlist, all day every day. And if he isn’t, you have to worry about the “small club mentality” of whoever has drawn up the shortlist… if there even is one.

  2. Can’t work out where your coming from with small club mentality lee think the fact where not in champions league could be deciding factor with nunez unless we can convince him about the project plus Calvert-lewin think shearer will disagree with your thoughts on that one so however they sign let them get on with it support and enjoy it
