Bid imminent as NUFC identify top target – Player wants move & Frenchman could join him – Report

Another big exclusive has emerged from The Telegraph in the last few moments, claiming Newcastle United look set to launch a bid for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Luke Edwards reports that our transfer plans will step up a notch now our Premier League status is officially secure, and writes that the England international has been identified as our top striker target.

Interestingly, the piece states that the 25-year-old ‘would like to make the move’ to Tyneside, but it remains to be seen if Everton would consider a summer sale.

Edwards also reveals that Reims striker Hugo Ekitike is ‘expected to join’, suggesting we have rekindled our interest in the French talent who almost arrived at St James’ Park in January.

A fee with the Ligue 1 side was agreed on deadline day, but the player was reluctant to leave his homeland midway through his breakthrough season – however it seems he may now be ready to sign.

Back to Calvert-Lewin, he’s struggled with injuries this season and has only managed three goals in 14 Premier League appearances as a result, but has bagged 36 times in his previous two campaigns on Merseyside.

The Telegraph report that Eddie Howe has ‘long standing’ interest in the 6ft 2′ forward, with the arrival of at least one forward said to be a key part of our summer recruitment plans.
