Newcastle considering surprise summer move for Premier League captain – talkSPORT

As reported by talkSPORT’s Alex Crook, Newcastle are monitoring the situation of Leicester City stopper Kasper Schmeichel now the Dane is entering the final years of his contract and looking to leave.

It’s safe to say the East Midlands side have not lived up to expectations this season, with them currently way behind the European places and battling to finish inside the top 10 instead.

Brendan Rodgers is said to be preparing for a major shake-up this summer, with the likes of Schmeichel and teammate Youri Tielemans open to leaving in the coming months, according to talkSPORT.

It is also no secret that Newcastle are in the market for another goalkeeper this summer, with a number of shot-stoppers tipped to sign as Howe looks to bring in some much needed competition – or a ball-playing replacement – for Martin Dubravka.

One issue with attracting the 35-year-old Dane to Tyneside would be his reported desire to play regular European football. At his age, he may be less likely to buy into the project for the future and prefer to join a club more likely to offer immediate success.
