Craig Hope names 5 strikers on Newcastle’s radar and reveals expected summer budget

The Mail’s Craig Hope has named Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Darwin Nunez, Patrik Schick, Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike as the strikers being discussed in recruitment meetings on Tyneside as Newcastle look to sign at least one striker this summer.

Due to Callum Wilson’s fitness issues and Chris Wood’s lack of potency, the club are eager to upgrade their goal threat in the window with an available budget of ‘£60-£80million’ plus player sales, according to Sportsmail.

While the ambition of the owners is to compete at the very top before long, the lack of funding from commercial deals so far means ‘the club will operate with caution this summer.’

In order to comply with Financial Fair Play (FFP) but also be able to spend big in the transfer market, the club must generate funds through commercial deals as well as outgoings. players have already been placed on the transfer list, but few of those are worth anything significant.

With that in mind, it is important for fans to approach the summer with the awareness that it may not be the total overhaul many were expecting, but improvements will be made nonetheless.

If Calvert-Lewin, Nunez, Schick, Isak and Ekitike are the five who’ve been shortlisted, who would you like to see us sign ahead of the 2022/23 season?

  1. Lewin injury prone, no chance with Nunez or Shik, Gabi Barbosa would be ideal

  2. As much as i think we should be targeting premier league players think schick would be great buy clips I’ve seen of him he knows where the goal is agree with kidda no chance with nunez can’t understand some fans reaction to calvert-lewin he’s already scored 21 goals in season before this one yes he’s missed a huge chunk of this season through injury but so did shearer and he still came back to bang the goals in plus he’s a big fan of calvert-lewin and think shearer knows one or two think about a good number 9

  3. Wilson and Wood were never going to be the future for Newcastle. Wilson is probably the best of the worst from a team that has spent the best part of 56 months in a relegation struggle and buying Wood was only ever intended to hurt a relegation rival rather than to move us forward.
As a direct result of that move Burnley could could be playing us for their Prem survival in 8 days time.
Wood will be put into the bargain bin come the summer and Wilson could join him, not wanting to play second, or even third fiddle, depending who we bring in.
Nothing to do with fitness. He’s just not good enough to get us to where we’re going.

  4. Ah Craig Hope, put a pin in it and hope it sticks again eh?

Only target we have a genuine interest in is Hugo Ekitike, come on mate, keep up, you are two weeks behind the rest! And… Full of it on everything else

If you think we don’t have any interest in DCL or Nunez, it might be you that needs to ‘keep up’, mate!
