Newcastle ‘make contact’ with Serie A giants in bid to beat Man Utd to long term target – Report

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato, Newcastle have ‘made contact’ with Napoli in a bid to beat Manchester United to the potential signing of Victor Osimhen.

The 23-year-old has enjoyed another successful season in Italy, bagging 17 goals and six assists in all competitions for the Serie A side.

Back in 2019, The Chronicle reported that head of recruitment Steve Nickson was keeping a close eye on the striker during his time at Lille, suggesting we’ve held long term interest.

Fast forward three years, Calciomercato report that the Italian side will demand big money for their top marksman, putting rumours of a £60million summer budget to the test when Osimhen alone is likely to cost more!

It’ll be interesting to see how things do unfold this summer, especially if we plan to launch a huge bid for a star striker, with the likes of Darwin Nunez and Patrik Schick two other big names who have been linked.

None of them will come cheap and all of them would take up a huge chunk of our alleged summer budget, giving credence to claims that we will have to buy smart and raise funds through a few much needed player sales.

With an injury hit Callum Wilson still our top scorer on just six goals, the Nigerian international would be an exciting option and someone who could help spearhead our attack – and this exciting new project – for years to come.
