Fabrizio Romano: Newcastle now facing fresh competition over move for long-term target

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Newcastle will now face competition from Borussia Dortmund for the signing of Reims forward Hugo Ekitike.

We have made the youngster a ‘top target’ for the summer and are currently working on a deal to bring him to Tyneside, but will do well to tempt him away from Champions League football.

The 19-year-old has been identified by the German side as a potential replacement for Erling Haaland who is set to leave the Bundesliga to join our Premier League rivals Manchester City.

So far this season, the France Under-20 striker has bagged himself nine goals and three assists in 22 Ligue 1 appearances, helping his team to a mid-table finish.

Since January, the wonderkid has been a priority for Newcastle who have identified a goal scorer as a top target for the summer.

Due to Wilson’s recurring injury problems and Chris Wood’s struggle to hit the back of the net, we are in desperate need of a potent forward who can make an immediate impact next year but also be part of a bigger project in the long-term.
