New board member at Newcastle United releases statement of intent

Chief executive officer of Golf Saudi, Majed Al Sorour, has recently joined the board at Newcastle and has promised to do ‘lots more for the city of Newcastle and its amazing people.’

Al Sorour will join co-owners Amanda Staveley and Jamie Reuben as well as chairman Yasir Al-Rumayyan, governor of the Public Investment Fund.

The new board member previously attended our first game following the takeover back in October, a 3-2 defeat to Tottenham, alongside the new owners.

Al Sorour, who was formerly a professional footballer for Saudi club Al Nassr, will now give the PIF greater representation on the board due to their 80% ownership of the club.

In a statement made this week, Sorour thanked everyone for their well wishes and was ‘pleased’ at our run of form to shoot us into mid-table and out of the relegation zone.

“Many thanks to you all for the wishes. I’ve been on this assignment since December and not alone. Team PIF, Amanda, Mehrdad (Ghodoussi), and his excellency with his wide and thorough vision.

“I’m very pleased that we have not only saved our team from relegation, but we may have the chance to finish top 10 in the premier.

“The work has just started and I and all of us look forward to the next season with god’s bless and hard work we will do lots more not only for the NUFC but for the whole city of Newcastle and it’s amazing people.”
