Eddie Howe to hold end-of-season discussions with at least 8 players over their futures

With our safety now confirmed, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has revealed he will soon sit down with at least eight players to discuss possible departures next year, according to the Shields Gazette.

The likes of Karl Darlow, Dwight Gayle, Isaac Hayden, Jeff Hendrick, Matty Longstaff, Matt Ritchie, Ciaran Clark and Jamal Lewis have all either scarcely featured for Eddie Howe, been left out of the squad, or sent out on loan.

Some have already attracted interest from other clubs with Karl Darlow being linked with former Newcastle manager and current West Brom boss Steve Bruce.

With a potential squad of 32 currently in place for the beginning of pre-season, it will be necessary for Howe to ‘trim the fat’ so to speak as well as make way for some new faces.

It may even be that more than eight players will need to be shipped out if we are to explore permanent signings, free transfers and the loan market in the next few months.

When asked about possible departures, Howe said: “It is very difficult to comment or go into too much depth because I respect my players too much to give out what will happen in the future.

“But yeah, I would say there are players here who, potentially, have not maybe featured too much under me so far who could stay and vice-versa so we will wait and see.”

  1. I would keep Jamal Lewis as a backup – there’s player there I’m sure. I suppose it depends on how he recovers from his groin injury.
