On Monday Night Football, Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher praised Eddie Howe for the ‘brilliant job’ he has done in pushing Newcastle out of a relegation battle.
In December, many already had us as the favourites to be relegated – a 1-1 draw in what felt like a must-win game at home to Norwich became the turning point for most.
However, Neville and Carragher believe manager Howe spent well and didn’t get ‘carried away’ with his January budget, bringing in ‘good solid characters’ to lift the team away from from danger.
Moving forward into next season, the former Liverpool man thinks we will soon be ‘a big problem for a lot of big teams’, so no pressure Eddie!
Ultimately, the key is to manage expectations – while every fan would love to see us play European football once more, the majority would be happy not having to endure the misery of another relegation battle.
With the little time we were afforded on the show, all of the analysis was expectedly positive – hopefully something we can all get used to in the coming few years.
