According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle’s pre-season plans to fly over to the USA in preparation for the new season have been scrapped but with no real explanation as to why.
Wolves were set to join them overseas and both teams have been left ‘fuming’ as they will likely now have to format new plans in the coming weeks when they should be starting their summer holidays.
The Premier League sides were set to take part in the ‘Ohio Cup’ with games being played in Cincinnati and Columbus and joined by both Valencia and Villareal.
This has now been called off on very short notice with little reasoning given to the clubs, but it is understood that ‘MLS approval was required but was not forthcoming.’
To have an entire training camp to help January signings and any new arrivals in the summer spend more time playing together would have been key for Eddie Howe so this will come as a huge disappointment.
Newcastle will now ‘explore their options’ after this sudden blow while Wolves are in talks with MLS clubs to arrange fixtures so they can still travel to the US.
