Toon officials set to watch Europa League star in tonight’s final as club eye bargain deal – Report

According to reports in Germany, Newcastle United are continuing to show serious interest in Frankfurt centre-back Evan Ndicka.

This comes via SportBILD, who revealed that we had scouts present to watch the Frenchman in his side’s Europa League semi final win over West Ham earlier this month.

Now, a few weeks on, it looks like we’ll also be keeping a close eye on the 6ft 4′ giant ahead of tonight’s big final between Frankfurt and Rangers, set to kick off at 8pm in Seville.

The report states that Newcastle, Monaco and Marseille have ‘all expressed an interest’ in the towering defender, but it’s ourselves who are believed to at the front of the queue.

There’s some confusion over the fee he could demand. SportBILD recently suggested that he may have a £17m release clause in his contract, but even if that is not the case, the Bundesliga side are said to be willing sellers given he is now entering the final 12 months of his current deal in Germany.

As a 6ft 4′ centre-back who is tall, quick on the ground and comfortable carrying the ball out of defence, he could be one to watch this summer and someone worth keeping a close eye on tonight!

  1. Ndicka will be a good and like for like addition to NUFC in view of the uncertainty of health of Fabian Schar, and his questionable physical fitness at times when required.
