Newcastle eyeing ambitious move for La Liga star after ‘£59m bid’ was rejected in January – Report

Sevilla’s Jules Kounde has been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea in recent weeks, but Newcastle are now said to be rivalling their bid for the defender after having a £59m bid rejected in January, according to Mundo Deportivo.

Barcelona have also been looking at the Frenchman, but with their financial difficulties, would have to add in a player as part of a trade to avoid paying the huge sum.

At just 23-years-old, Kounde has already made over 150 first-team appearances at the highest level and has been scouted by Europe’s top clubs.

This season, the French international has been played a key role alongside Diego Carlos – another of our January targets – helping Sevilla to maintain the best defence in La Liga and push them into a Champions League spot.

It seems unlikely that we would spend the majority of our budget on one player, but with plenty of options available in free agency and the loan market, it’s not totally out of the question.

  1. Can’t see us paying 60 million quid for someone like Van **** who is a proven Prem defender, never mind someone from a foreign league.
